VINCENT, Los Angeles County — A shared path built beside a flood-control channel needs different safety precautions from a normal street bikeway.
LA County Public Works’ public bikeways GIS map has data layers for bicycle paths and gates. Its descriptions show that gate status may be recorded as locked or unlocked, with reasons including storm impacts, bikeway flooding and construction activity.
Plan a safer Big Dalton ride
The Big Dalton Bike Path, formerly known as the Vincent Community Bikeway, passes along channel infrastructure in the Vincent area. Riders should consult posted gate signs, local agency updates and visible trail conditions instead of relying on an old opening-day article to assume access is available. Do not climb around a locked gate, enter rising water, or ride a closed section during rain.
The public map service is an information source, not an assurance that every update is instantaneous. If a status differs from an on-site sign or police/fire instruction, follow the official closure on the ground.
